Red Box

Technical information

Height: 15-25m

Habit & Growth rate: Eucalyptus polyanthemoshas three subspecies:

· Subsp. Polyanthemos occurs widely on the Central and Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.
· Subsp. Vestita is widespread in central and eastern Victoria with some extension into New South Wales.
· Subsp. Longior is restricted to foothills of far eastern Victoria extending north to the New South Wales Border.

Mt William Advanced Tree Nursery grows E. polyanthemos sourced from Plenty Gorge Provenance. It is generally accepted that the subspecies Vestita occurs in the Melbourne region.

It is a tree that will tolerate most difficult sites as long as poor drainage is not a problem. Will withstand long periods of dryness and drought. If irrigated regularly when first planted it is considered quite a quick growing tree, otherwise is a slow growing tree. Will withstand frosts to minus 5 and below.

Foliage: E. polyanthemos is know for its rounded/coin shaped juvenile leaves that are waxy and blue in colour making it a attractive amenity tree in avenues, parks, and broad streets where plenty of space is available.
