Allocasuarina verticillata

Drooping Sheoak

Technical information

Height: 4-10m, Width: 2-6m

Habit & Growth rate: It grows on a wide range of habitats extending from coastal headlands and plains to rocky outcrops on inland ranges.

A. verticillata can be used on very difficult urban sites, it is tolerant of heat extremes, tolerant of protracted dry periods. Handles the coastal planting but also the heavier clays of some urban areas, but has little tolerance to water logged soils.

Foliage: Small to medium sized tree, crown usually rounded, dull greyish green foliage with branchlets mostly drooping.

In the nursery this tree is what I call an ugly duckling, in all sized containers it looks poorly, but once planted and with age it becomes a good-looking tree.

Comments:

All plant dimensions are estimates only and ultimate size and growth rates will depend on growing conditions, particularly when used in some urban environments.
